  • SITE PLAN APPROVAL CHECKLIST

    • Provided to developers and used by City Staff to make sure development appropriately address pedestrian and bicycle safety and access
    • A comprehensive yet straightforward check-list based on best practices
  • SNOW CLEARANCE

    • Bike lanes get cleared concurrent with motor vehicle lanes
    • The City assumes responsibility for removing over 1″ of snow from sidewalks along selected key roadways
    • Home and business owners required to clear accumulations over 1″ within a set time limit
    • Education program on why snow removal is important and the City’s requirements
    • Once a season warning followed by fines for repeated offences
    • Snow removal assistance program for those unable to clear snow themselves
  • PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE FACILITY MAINTENANCE

    • Bike lanes and paved pathways receive regularly scheduled clearing to keep them free of debris
    • Seasonal communications with residents regarding not placing leaves, trash cans, etc. in the bicycle lanes
  • SPEED MANAGEMENT

    • Implement speed management measures where the majority of people are speeding
    • Design the City’s roadways so that people naturally travel 30 mph or lower
  • BIKE PARKING

    • Fund a program to install bike racks in business areas, public buildings and schools
    • Provide bike racks at cost for businesses or residential complexes that would like to add bike parking themselves
    • Follow best practices for number of spaces, types of racks and placement
  • AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT (ADA) TRANSITION PLAN

    • Assess the existing pedestrian network to identify barriers
    • Develop a system to respond to complaints
    • Implement proactive measures to eliminate barriers
  • EVENT PARKING AND WAYFINDING SYSTEM

    • Secure permanent event parking
    • For events use digital signs with up to the minute information on parking availability and directions
    • provide real-time parking information via websites and apps
