The recommendations are based on the input we received from workshops, surveys, and online input during the spring and fall of 2019. The plan includes major county connections and detailed recommendations for some of the smaller communities and the City of Jackson.
The plan strives to be visionary and pragmatic, understanding that feasibility and cost are key to implementation. Unpaved seasonal trails and routes reflect the rural character of the county and provide a more economical approach to developing a county-wide trail network. The topography and water features that make Jackson County so special, also make it a challenge to implement off-road trails. Many of the proposed routes follow abandoned rail corridors where topography and water issues are already taken care of and the biggest obstacle will be acquiring easements.

The Region 2 Planning Commission staff is now working to get the plan approved and adopted by the JACTS/R2PC committees, the Jackson County Board of Commissioners, and the Jackson City Council. The plan is expected to be adopted in 2020 by each group.
Once the plans is adopted, the work begins to implement the plan’s recommendations. The Region 2 Planning Commission is committed to working with communities and local partners on studying and implementing the plan. Please continue to reach out to The Region 2 Planning Commission staff if there are questions regarding this project and next steps to implement the plan.
